“Inventing Ourselves” Draws Innovators from Around North America

March 4th, 2004 – Washington, DC – All inPlay recently attended the Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation’s symposium entitled “Inventing Ourselves” at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC. The event brought together a group of inventors and scientists for two days to discuss and exhibit ways to augment the skills of humans through technological innovation.

Visitors to the All inPlay exhibit were able to play both of All inPlay’s ground-breaking online games; All inPlay Crazy Eights and All inPlay Poker. “Our goal in creating these games was to reproduce the fun of playing with your friends around the dinning room table,” said Paul Silva, co-founder and Community Director at All inPlay. “Thanks to the live connection to the Internet provided by the Smithsonian, visitors (all of whom were fully sighted) were able to play with people from around the world - both blind and sighted, as equals.”

The symposium allowed for interaction between specialists in many different areas of technology. All inPlay was among several groups displaying innovations in areas from sports to artificial intelligence. Lectures and panel discussions were held in which participants analyzed how new technological innovations augment the mental and physical abilities of humans, and the ever-narrowing boundary between humans and machines. “All inPlay technology augments the social abilities of a population that has previously been denied the ability to participate in the rapidly expanding arena of online interaction, and I believe the social empowerment of people through technology is an important area of innovation that All inPlay brings to the symposium.”
